Crispy Pita Chips

I’m admittedly more of a sweets than a savory gal. Which is why I tend to mostly bake muffins and loaves for the kids – whether they like it or not. (I’m sure they’d be just fine with me throwing a bag of cookies at them and calling it a day.) Kids. They don’t expect all that much if you don’t set their expectations too high.

But every once in a while I get a craving for crunchy, salty, savory type stuff.

I used to grab a giant bag of tortilla chips and down them with a jar of salsa. (Okay – I still do it every once in a while). But I also have a pretty crappy metabolism as I get older and I realize that I just can’t get away with it like I used to.

So my new favourite little savory snack is crispy baked pita chips dipped in hummus.

They’re super-easy to make. All you need is whole wheat pita bread, olive oil and sea salt. Here’s how I make them:

Preheat the oven to 350 F.

Cut up a large whole wheat pita into triangles.

Place them on a cookie sheet and drizzle them with olive oil. Sprinkle with sea salt and leave them in the oven just until they start to brown and crisp up.

That’s it! I love them dipped in hummus. And we’ll often add these to the meal when we’re having a ‘picnic’ style dinner with the kids. So simple and tasty.
