Healthy Iced Mocha: Something for the Grown-Ups!

iced-mocha

I recently decided to change up a few of my habits.

One of the changes I’ve made is to incorporate near-daily exercise into my life. (I say ‘near-daily’ because let’s be honest, I’m only human… and sometimes I just need to give a workout a pass in favour of sleep).

So I’m getting up at 5:30 in the morning about 5 times a week in order to get a quick, but challenging, half hour workout into my day. It sounds insane on paper, I realize. But I do it to feel good and be fit and healthy. Also? I love wine. So I feel like this will somehow offset my wine consumption.

My husband leaves for work by 6:30 each morning, so if I want to work out and get in the shower before my kids start waking up (and the daily routines of breakfasts, getting dressed, getting prepped for school, getting to work, etc. etc. start happening), I need to be up early.

Another thing I’ve started trying out is having a protein shake a few mornings a week as my breakfast. My husband knows much more than I do about protein powders, so he bought us a natural one that I feel comfortable having.

One morning, after a good portion of my pot of coffee had gone cold (surprise, surprise, eh parents??) I decided to try a little twist on my protein smoothies.

Here’s what you need to do to make a delicious, caffeinated and filling beverage to start your day with:

  • Take cooled down coffee (I used a good-sized mug full of it) and place it in a blender
  • Add a scoop of chocolate protein powder
  • Add a few handfuls of ice (I like my drinks really cold and with a thick-ish consistency, so I like lots of ice)
  • Add a half a teaspoon of vanilla extract
  • Blend it all up and enjoy!

Processed with Snapseed.

Seriously yummy, few ingredients and a great way to start the day. Enjoy!
